I think dark humor also works when there's a certain level of knowledge in some subjects.

Think of why some offensive/edgy jokes can go to far, because the joke teller had to look some info or learn certain things to make a joke about a tragedy feel heavy.

That sort of "holy shit" moment.

Even if the joke teller spent a bit too much time on certain places online to know certain details.

Or sometimes, real experiences too.

In a way, SsethTzeentach to me comes off as 2 examples where he either has jokes about history or chemistry stuff (Probably because of his IRL job) or he sometimes uses a meme that's trendy online.

Even EmptyHero’s jokes are creative as if he did research or had interest in weird topics.

This is why Zoomer’s “safe” humor like “i hate the French” or “Big Tobacco” sucks: It’s not just safe, it’s also coming from a place with weak frame of references so you can tell a literal kid (Or one mentally) thinks those are funny.

And it's the same type of people that freaked out at that 3D bowling pins animation and do the fake detachment over that Khyle artist ("Just. not. funny").

But one thing is Gen Z/Alpha not liking edgy humor, another is when some Zoomers do make edgy shit but most will have Wojaks or some shit because you gotta have that "clearly-not-9gag-tier-at-this-point" meme face culture.

Though some edgy Newgrounds animations can still be crude and have basic references but still.

People think Family Guy is bad in general because it has “adult themes”, when at the same time a lot of interesting and important artists/works of art tackle adult themes.

And you also have to consider the counter-culture aspect of going through crude or uncomfortable areas.

But with FG hate, we’re yet again in the area of cartoon reviewers that only want extremely soft stuff.

In fact, "adult art" is the default of art because it's not just porn or violence, it could also be about lots of themes in general.

Specially since adulthood IS the "peak" form of man.

It's important to get into some clever stuff or know about it, for the sake of frame of reference.
